The New Director

The New Director is the first DLC of Curious Expedition 2. It was a big free update that features a new game mode (Director Mode) and plenty of new content like a new tribe, island type, companions, and enemies.

Director Mode

The Director Mode is a new game mode that is less story-focused than Campaign Mode and provides more replayability.

Narratively this mode takes place after the original campaign, starting in 1890. You take over as the Director of the Exposition as you explore islands containing greater dangers than you've ever faced before. For each year you complete, you have to choose and add a new negative modifier to your trek, making the expeditions even more challenging. The end goal is to collect all the different Director Modifiers and then complete one final year with them.

This game mode is also about getting the most fame. You can keep track of your scores in the Hall of Fame.

Each modifier gives you +20% fame on returned treasures and something else that makes the game more challenging.

Bad Dice

Dice challenges get an additional die with the potential for bad outcomes.

Fast Fog

Fog swallows islands faster.

The Inspector

The club inspector takes up space in your trek which means you probably have to dismiss one useful trek member.

You have to bring a Club Inspector on your expeditions.

More Enemies

Enemies are more numerous and more dangerous.

Unpredictable Conditions

Suffer penalties on treks unless you purchase mitigating items from the ship shop.

Corrupted Islands

Corrupted island type.

The corrupted island type is mostly a rather small island type but also quite dangerous. It is the homeland of the Pale Mask tribe that comes taking over islands of our dimension. It is accessible via a portal from any other island type. It is composed of only unique tiles like the glowing forest, blood springs or corrupted fields. It is also inhabited by special animals and enemies like critters, the Rampaging Duke, or flying jellyfish. It has a very special shrine that can cure a trek member from being a Pale Mask member and is the place where you can find the Duke to create potions. You have to find the portal on the other side of the island to get back to your dimension.

DLC Characters

Pale Mask Tribe

The Pale Mask tribe comes from another dimension and takes over local tribes. It can happen that you find local villages and huts destroyed and corrupted by the Pale Mask. When you find them on an island you can be sure to find a portal leading to their corrupted island.

The Duke

The Duke is a giant parasited sea cucumber that can create special potions in its stomach in exchange for some items. It features an experimental crafting system where a combination of two sanity items can create one of thirteen potions. Every potion can be created with different combinations of items. It can also sell you some sanity items in case you have none.

The Duke can only be found in the corrupted biome that you can access via a portal when the Pale Mask tribe took over an island.

Joobee the truffle hog

Joobee is a little truffle hog and can find different items by digging around the map. He can dig once every 20 days and can dig up different items on different tiles.
